So I finally had the chance to test my snow tires coming home from my FIRST Robotics meeting. Not a lot of snow on the roads, but it's that fine, wet snow that you can skate on in your sneakers. Know what I mean?
I take the "scenic" route home, down some roads with no traffic and no cars parked in the road. Took 90 degree right turns at 30mph - absolutely no slip from any tire. Even did a panic brake scenario - again, absolutely no slip, no loss of control, no loss of confidence. I might as well have been driving on my OEM all seasons in the middle of July.
I'm well aware of the opinion of snow tires on this board, and to most of you it's a "duh" moment, but this is the first time I've used them, and as they say; seeing is believing. Well I saw, and I am an official believer now.
Next test I'll need a couple of inches of built up snow and slush and see how well it handles then.

You can never imagine how much of a difference it makes until you first try it.
a rwd with snow tires is better than AWD/4WD on stock tires.
SRT8 in the snow? NO PROBLEM!

Yeah, mine's a FWD car so the grip is pretty great. I can only imagine how good it would be with tires and an AWD car.

To die for. My wife has a 2013 Escape AWD with winter tires and it's freaking unstoppable.

I won't be able to swing it this year, but I want to put snow tires on my wife's AWD CX-5 for next winter.

After wanting them for years, I finally took the plunge on snow tires a few years ago for my RWD truck. It really is a revelation that first time out. I'll never go without them again.

I just finished my commute with them this morning. About 6 inches of fresh, mushy, slushy powder. Plowed hills as well. Nothing stopped me. I even passed someone on a two-lane road, lol.

Blizzaks on my RWD truck are incredible, so I figured putting them on an AWD vehicle must be kind of mind altering.

When I move back up north, I'm thinking about putting some rally tires on in the winter to see how that works.

OK so you have done what I've been dreaming about! Always wanted to get a set of snow tires for my Mustang. Can you elaborate on what tires, experience etc...

The tires were 275/40R20 Michelin Alpin. The tires themselves were not the best I ever used but I had bought the car late January and the winter tire selection was limited. Blizzaks or something would probably be a better choice.
I never once had an issue once I had the tires As you see in the picture that was an 8" snowfall and I handled it no problem. I never got stuck once and I drove it for 3 winters like that.On the stock tires 1/4" of snow and I wasn't going anywhere.
Like any RWD in winter it's all about throttle control. My coworker had a 4x4 F150 with all seasons and I would drive around him.
IMO winter tires are a must have and with the right tires ANY car can be a winter car.
